Hi!

I’m Paola, and I write and speak about life, faith, and theology. My goal: to think biblically about all of life.

Welcome!

What is "Food for Thought", and Why I Write It.

I love the expression “Food for Thought.” We don’t have a direct translation in Spanish or French. Leave it to English to convey a lot in three simple words! It connotes two of my favourite things: food and ideas.

And certainly, what we feed our minds has a direct impact on our general well-being, much like quality foods do on our nutrition. When I first decided to have a newsletter almost four years ago, I knew that’s what I wanted to name it.

I wanted to use the correspondence with others as a space to invite reflection on things not always easy to look at. I like to think deeply about things, look closely at small moments, and in the world around us with my feet firmly planted here while challenging my mind to look to God. Yes, challenge. Because let’s face it, it doesn’t come naturally. My natural bent isn’t toward him.

I wish to let his words direct the steps I take right here in the life that I have and the decisions I make. And I want to use my time and resources to do likewise. My letter is part of that.

In Food for Thought, I always share three things: a thoughtful reflection to process or unpack something that’s happening, a bit of my own everyday life and always include resources that I’ve found helpful and think you might also find useful. From thoughtful articles and podcast interviews to spoken word and music, there’s just one or two in each letter and usually paired with the topic at hand.

Part newsletter, part editorial column, and sometimes devotional, it is always an invitation to consider how faith alters everyday life and the narratives we feed our minds. To help tend to the soil of our minds and ground our thoughts on what is true and good.

In the past, it’s gone out weekly. In 2021, after going out twice a month, it’s back to a weekly rhythm. Want in? Sign up here.

See you in your inbox! 😊
